May Tan was the Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited (“SCBHK”) before her retirement in 2017. May joined the SCBHK Board in 2009 when the bank acquired Cazenove Asia. Apart from being the CEO of SCBHK, May was Global Head of Equity Corporate Finance and Vice Chair, Corporate Banking at Standard Chartered Bank. Before joining Standard Chartered, May was the Chief Executive Officer of Cazenove Asia (since 1993) and was a partner of Cazenove and Co (1995). Under May’s leadership, Cazenove Asia
became a successful independent Asbiaenc ainmvees tment bank.

Since her retirement from SCBHK in March 2017, May has focussed on Board positions. She is currently on the Board of CLP Holdings, Manulife Financial and JP Morgan China Income and Growth PLC. May stepped down from HSBC Insurance Board in November 2021 and from the Link Asset Management Board in January 2022 after serving nine years on the latter board.

 

May supports several charitable organisations. She was on the Council of Oxfam Hong Kong from 2008-2017 and Vice Chairman from 2012-2017. She is now Senior Adviser to the Oxfam Council and remains on Oxfam’s Fundraising Committee. Since 2014, May has been on the Board of Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation, a charity committed to promote creativity amongst the youth in Hong Kong. May is a Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) champion and started the Women’s network at Standard Chartered Bank HK in 2013 and was the global sponsor for D&I for the bank until her retirement.

 

Since 2019, May has been a member of the Advisory Council of the Malaysian Chamber. She started the Women’s Network at the chamber in 2020. Over the past 20 years, May made significant contribution to Hong Kong through numerous public roles. In 2016, she was the Chairperson of the Hong Kong Association of Banks, and Director of the Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited. In the same year, she was a member of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee Sub-committee on Currency Board Operations of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and a member of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

 

In 2015, she was a member of the Risk Management Committee of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited. From 2014 – 2017, May was Vice President of Hong Kong Institute of Banks, and a member of the Banking Advisory Committee. May was a member of the Listing Committee of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange from May 2012 to July 2015 and on the Takeovers & Mergers Panel and Takeovers Appeal Committee from April 2001 to Mar 2013.

 

May was appointed by the Chief Executive of the HK SAR as a member of the Standing Committee on Judicial Salaries and Conditions of Service, from 2015-2020. May is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales and Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. May received two awards from the American Chamber in HK, Firstly “Woman Professional of the Year” award in 2015 and “Woman on Board of the Year” in
2020.

For over a decade she was a Managing Director at BNP Paribas within its Global Markets businesses where she led teams based in London, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Australia. She was in charge of building BNP Paribas’s presence in Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa. She covered institutional investors, private and retail banks for investment products and solutions.


Throughout her tenure at BNP Paribas, Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank, Krisztina has built a strong track record in leading rapidly expanding teams in emerging areas of business in a wide range of geographies. She has recruited and coached multinational talent and driven exceptional performance. Krisztina is also involved in inclusive leadership initiatives across the financial services industry in Hong Kong.


She is a member of the industry group “Women Chief Executive Hong Kong” and has initiated leadership mentoring programs industry wide. Krisztina was born in Hungary and has lived in the Middle East, France, London and Hong-Kong. She has graduated from HEC Paris with a Master’s Degree in Finance and holds a post-graduate degree in Financial Law. She currently resides in Hong Kong.

Born and brought up in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, Clare studied in Psychology at the University of London and then took an MSc in Industrial Relations at the London School of Economics. Clare joined the Wyatt Company in London to start her career in HR consulting. 

Over a 38 year career, Clare has built significant experience in client, business and people leadership across different geographies. She has been part of WTW’s global leadership teams, managed in a global matrix environment and lead teams through 3 mergers across the UK, EMEA and Asia Pacific. Prior to her retirement from WTW, she was Head of the International region ( APAC, CEEMEA and LATAM) for WTW’s Human Capital and Benefits businesses and then Head of Asia for WTW.

Supporting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at work and in the community is a passion of Clare’s. She is an active supporter and member of charities related to that cause. She has sponsored and involved in senior female leadership programs at WTW, acted as a mentor for students at the Asian University for Women, a mentor with HK’s The Women’s Foundation (TWF) and an active supporter of the careers of her alumni colleagues and clients. Clare is also an accredited executive coach (IECL L2).

 

Since 2020, Clare has been a member of the Women’s Internal Network committee of the Malaysia chamber in Hong Kong . She was a founding Charter member of a UK registered charity PAWA (PAN ASIAN WOMENS ASSOCIATION) in 2009 and has been a Trustee since 2020. PAWA is 100% volunteer run, focused on a single purpose-to support underprivileged teenage girls’ education in Asia. 

 

She has also trained as a volunteer swim coach at SPLASH! in Hong Kong.

 

With any spare time, Clare enjoys travel, wine appreciation, cooking and attempts to keep exercising through Pilates, swimming, and the occasional gym visit!
